The cooperation agreement between the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, which concerns the redevelopment of the square of the Achna Municipal District, was signed on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the offices of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
The agreement was signed by the Mayor, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the General Director of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Dr. Costas Konstantinou, in the presence of the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Districts of Achna and Ayia Napa, Mr. Nikos Vasilas and Mr. Antonis Christou, respectively.
The agreement is part of the Grants Scheme for the Revitalization of Rural, Mountainous, Border and Remote Areas through the Creation of Authentic Experiences, promoted by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. The project is expected to aesthetically and functionally upgrade the public space of the square, strengthening the local identity.
The total budget of the project amounts to €89.560,00 (incl. VAT) and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism will cover the amount of €65.000,00 with a grant, while the Municipality of Ayia Napa will pay the remaining amount. The project is scheduled to be completed by June 30, 2025.
In his statements, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, stated that "the renovation of the square of the Achna Municipality is an essential project that enhances the local character and upgrades the daily life of the residents.
He expressed his warm thanks to the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for its support and cooperation. "Through such actions," he added, "we invest in the quality of life of citizens and in strengthening the local tourism product with authentic elements."
He also stated that the Municipality of Ayia Napa remains committed to promoting sustainable development and highlighting the special characteristics of each of its areas.
