The details of the unfortunate 60-year-old who lost his life in the Protaras sea area have been released by the Police.

According to information from the police, around 13:20 pm information was received at the message control center of the Famagusta Police Department about a dead diver in the Golden Coast marine area in Paralimni.

Specifically, under circumstances which are being investigated by the Police during the disputed time, Axel Schoeller, 60 years old from Austria, a permanent resident of Paralimni while he was diving with his friend at a distance of 1,4 nautical miles from the Golden Coast sea area was spotted floating unconscious on the surface of the sea.

Members of the Port Police immediately went to the scene where they helped pull the 60-year-old ashore, while an ambulance was also called to the scene and transported the 60-year-old to the Famagusta General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. According to the first information, the 60-year-old went to the disputed spot to search for a wreck and he reportedly dived to a depth of 100 meters.

There are no suspicions of criminal activity while the body of the 60-year-old man was inspected and no external injuries were found.

The scheduled autopsy on the 60-year-old's body is expected to be determined later in the day.
