AGIA NAPA: A foreigner attacked the Police - a 27-year-old man was found "loaded" with cocaine

Police actions in the tourist areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa between the dates 11-12/8/22. In the context of the daily action plans prepared by the Famagusta Police Department in the tourist areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa in order to more effectively prevent and combat crime and strengthen the sense of security and protection of citizens, coordinated operations were carried out with the participation of members of the police stations of Agia Napa Napa and Paralimni but also members of the OPE, TAE, Famagusta Traffic, Y.KA.N Famagusta, Y.A&M Famagusta, Traffic Headquarters as well as members of the M.M.A.D. During the operations, checks were carried out on 56 premises and 67 persons were arrested, while 25 complaints were received, which concerned:

  • 6 for operating a building without a license from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism
  • 6 for operating premises without a license to sell alcoholic beverages
  • 9 for operating a premises without a license to broadcast sound from the competent authority
  • 2 for nuisance in violation of common quiet hours (0030-0600)
  • 1 for selling tobacco products without a license
  • 1 for placing objects on a public road

53 traffic complaints were also made, while 22 breathalyzer tests were carried out, resulting in 3 complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol.

As part of the Police's checks to combat illegal employment and employment as well as illegal stay, the Police members proceeded to a total of 3 arrests of third-country nationals who were found to be working without the relevant permit and 1 arrest of a third-country national who was found to be resided illegally in the Republic. The employers of the above were accused in writing to be called before the Court.

1 arrest was also made of a 40-year-old foreigner who, at around 0100 on 12/8/22, was spotted walking around Agia Mavris Street in Ayia Napa in a state of intoxication and at the sight of the police vehicle he started swearing at the members of the police causing a disturbance of the peace and concern . The 40-year-old man resisted arrest while continuing to cause concern, disturbing the peace even during his transfer to the Ayia Napa Police Station.

In addition, 1 arrest was made of a 27-year-old third-country national who was found on 11/8/22 at 2345 hours to be in possession of 3 bags containing cocaine with a total weight of 1,5 grams. In the search that followed, 2 bags were found in his apartment which contained plant matter-cannabis with a total weight of 1 gram, and 1 bag with cocaine weighing 1 gram. Also located was a plastic grinder with a quantity of dry plant material-cannabis.

The coordinated operations of the Famagusta Police Department will continue, while the controls in view of the three days of the fifteenth of August will be increased in order to ensure the safety and protection of the citizens.
