Police actions in the tourist areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa between the dates 12/8/22-16/8/22.
In the context of the daily action plans prepared by the Famagusta Police Department in the tourist areas of Protaras and Ayia Napa with the aim of more effectively preventing and combating crime and strengthening the sense of security and protection of citizens, coordinated operations were carried out with the participation of members of the police stations of Agia Napa Napa and Paralimni but also members of the OPE, TAE, Famagusta Traffic, Y.KA.N Famagusta, Y.A&M Famagusta, Traffic Headquarters as well as members of the M.M.A.D. During the operations, checks were carried out on 115 properties and 166 persons were arrested, while 41 complaints were received, which related to:
- 3 for operating a building without a license from the Ministry of Tourism
- 11 for operating a premises in breach of closing hours
- 7 for operating premises without a license to sell alcoholic beverages
- 6 for operating premises and selling alcoholic beverages in violation of license conditions
- 12 for operating a premises without a license to broadcast sound from the competent authority
- 1 for nuisance in violation of common quiet hours (0030-0600)
- 1 for illegal peddling
Also, 141 traffic complaints were made while 60 breathalyzer controls were carried out, resulting in 13 complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol.
As part of the police checks to combat illegal employment and employment as well as illegal stay, members of the Police proceeded to a total of 6 arrests of third-country nationals who were found to be working without the relevant permit, one of whom was found to be residing illegally in the Republic . The employers of the above were accused in writing to be summoned before the Court.
1 arrest of a 28-year-old third-country national was investigated who was spotted on 15/8/22 at 0040 hours roaming on Agia Mavris Street in Ayia Napa suspiciously. After he was stopped by members of the police, it was found that he was residing illegally in the Republic and he was informed that he would be arrested. Immediately, the 28-year-old pushed the policeman to avoid arrest and ran away, resulting in him being chased and stopped at close range. He was then taken to the Ayia Napa police station and taken into custody. It is expected that within the day a case will be registered against him at the Famagusta provincial court in Paralimni.
Also, 6 arrests were made for cases of illegal drug possession.
Specifically, on 12/8/22 at 2210 hours in Ayia Napa, a 23-year-old man from the United Kingdom was arrested in possession of a bag containing 0,3 grams of cocaine. He was taken to the offices of YKAN Famagusta and after being accused in writing he was released to be summoned later.
On 13/8/22 at 0010 hours, a 23-year-old man from Switzerland was arrested in whose possession a bag with 0,3 grams of cocaine was found. He was taken to the offices of YKAN Famagusta and after being accused in writing he was released to be summoned later.
On 14/8/22 at 0130 in Ayia Napa, two Greek Cypriots aged 19 and 20 were arrested in their possession a hand-made cigarette containing cannabis plant material mixed with manufactured tobacco 9 cm long and a nylon bag containing plant material- hemp weighing 0,3670 grams. Both were taken to the offices of YKAN Famagusta and after being accused in writing they were released to be summoned later.
On 14/8/22 at 0230 in Ayia Napa, a 26-year-old third-country national was arrested in whose possession a quantity of plant matter - cannabis weighing 0,3685 grams was detected. He was taken to the offices of YKAN Famagusta and after being accused in writing he was released to be summoned later.
On 15/8/22 at 0120 in Ayia Napa, a 28-year-old from Russia was arrested in possession of a 4 cm long hand-made cigarette containing cannabis. She was taken to the offices of YKAN Famagusta and after being accused in writing she was released to be summoned later.
Also on 13/8/22 at 2250 and on 15/8/22 at 0445 in Protaras and Ayia Napa two arrests of British tourists aged 23 and 31 respectively were carried out for offenses of drunkenness, disturbance, disturbing the peace, public insult, assault against police officers and resisting lawful arrest. In both cases, the arrested were accused in writing and released, while it is expected that within the day the cases will be registered before the Famagusta Provincial Court in Paralimni. The cases were investigated by the Police Stations of Agia Napa and Paralimni.
The coordinated operations of the Famagusta Police Department will continue throughout the tourist season.
