The 9th Ayia Napa Medieval Festival opened its gates last night, October 16, which will end on Saturday, October 16.
A statement from the Municipality states that the inauguration was carried out by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios, who greeted him and said that Ayia Napa, apart from being a prime tourist destination, is also a pioneer in organizing events and cultural events that succeed in enriching Cyprus' tourism product.
"These events also offer locals and foreign visitors high-quality entertainment," he said, calling the Ayia Napa Medieval Festival "one of the best festivals in Cyprus."
In his greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, stated that "the revival of the Crusader Kingdom of Medieval Cyprus through the contemporary artistic creation of the Medieval Festival of Ayia Napa, is part of the triptych Culture - Education - Cultural Tourism".
According to him, all the activities of the Festival aim at cultivating the educational level of the world, promoting to the local and foreign visitors the rich tradition of the place, highlighting the achievements of the cultural activity of the region and upgrading the tourist product.
He added that "the Ayia Napa Medieval Festival has been characterized in every way as well organized, thematically attractive and artistically innovative for it and has risen in the eyes and in the cultural consciousness of the world, very high and has become one of the most important events. in Cyprus and internationally, reaching to become synonymous with the region and to be selected by the Ministry of Tourism as the great event of the province of Famagusta ".
The Mayor expressed the belief that "in this way we will contribute to the multifaceted development of Cyprus, since the dozens of cultural activities organized in the Municipality promote the dissemination of the cultural heritage of Ayia Napa and our country in general and oxygenate the local tourism economy." .
He also assured that "the Municipality will do its best and its policy will always be accompanied by cultural activities, with the aim of preserving the tradition and promoting our culture."
The Deputy Minister of Tourism was guided by the Mayor of Ayia Napa to the folklore museum - Agrotospito and the craft kiosks where he had the opportunity to talk to craftsmen and creators. Mr. Perdios was also awarded a commemorative shield and the banner of the Festival, while an exchange of souvenirs followed with the Mayor of Gelendzhik, a city in Russia with which the Municipality of Ayia Napa is twinned ".
According to the announcement, "the first night of the Festival began with the big parade of music and dance groups and groups, which took place along Makarios Avenue and ended with the concert" Old Roads "given by artists Lakis Chalkias and Sofia Papazoglou."
