A major operation was set up this afternoon in the Ayia Napa marina, after the discovery of six boats carrying hundreds of migrants. This is the largest number of boats with immigrants, who arrived en masse in our country.
So far, 116 migrants aboard the three boats have been taken to the Ayia Napa marina. According to information from Philenews, they are 68 men, 12 women and 36 children, including 13 unaccompanied minors. Passengers are being transferred to 2 more boats at the Ayia Napa marina, while the last boat has been approached and its passengers are expected to be transferred later this evening.
The six boats were detected by the Republic's radar shortly after noon and the Coastal and Maritime Police were immediately mobilized.
Although the total number of migrants on the 6 boats has not been clarified, there are estimates of more than 300.
The first information states that the boats started from Lebanon, after paying between 2500 and 3000 dollars each to an unknown person.
The authorities of the Republic are on alert, since due to the summer there are fears of greater mass flows of immigrants.
