The sunbeds on the beaches of Protaras and Ayia Napa, areas where thousands of people rush on weekends, are endangered after a certain time.

So many citizens complain that they do not find sunbeds available on the beaches due to the fact that some leave their towels early in the morning (around 5-6) and return later.

This results in almost no sunbed even for a sample from 9 in the morning since most sunbeds are kept with towels.

SigmaLive contacted the Municipality of Paralimni about this issue. Mr. George Economou on behalf of the Municipality, explained that the employee who works on the beach, gets a job at 8 in the morning. If the people who left the towels do not show up by 10, then he moves them.

In addition, he stressed that in the past, the Municipality, with a workshop, would collect the towels left by citizens on the sunbeds at 7 in the morning. However, he noted that this practice also caused a problem since then citizens lost their towels.

Mr. Economou added that in the coming days decisions are expected from the Municipal Council since the goal is to solve the problem.

The Beach Inspector of Ayia Napa, Dimitris Pateras, also spoke to SigmaLive and stressed that this phenomenon is observed mainly by hotel guests.

Mr. Pateras clarified that tourists leave their towels on the sunbeds, pay the person who works on the beach and then go for breakfast at the hotel to return later to the beach.

Finally, Mr. Pateras stressed that due to the fact that the sunbeds are paid, they can not do anything about this issue.
