The motivation for the Greek Cypriots in terms of the solution is to see clearly the way things are going, said Mustafa Akinci, stating that the issue of Varosia should be faced without confrontation with the UN, in the context of international law and challenged the motives of the discussion that took place in the enclosed city of Famagusta a few days ago.

In the context of a TV interview of the Turkish Cypriot leader on three Turkish Cypriot channels, Mr. Akinci stated that the issue of Varos is not an individual issue, but a community and international issue. He reiterated that at the "presidential" meeting, 10 days after Crans Montana in July 2017, the issue of Varos and the return of the Maronites were discussed and some general issues of principle were agreed upon, such as that any decisions would be taken through negotiations and under the auspices of the UN. That, he said, was true of all the meetings they had.

Mustafa Akinci stated to what extent the issue reached with the return of the Maronites, which was stopped by a decision of the then four-party "government", while on the issue of Varos, he heard without prior information from the later "government" that they would proceed to log work talking about opening the enclosed city.

The recording work is continuing from what he realizes, said the T / C leader, saying that suddenly this event was organized - a discussion about Varosi, without only he being invited. "There is no one who did not understand the purpose that took place (the debate), two months before the elections, what is the meaning of this event. It was said today that because it was not President Erdogan, Akinci was not invited either. Do people believe that? I leave it to his judgment ".

Mr Akinci also reiterated that his proposal was to return the Varosians to their rightful owners in exchange for direct flights from the illegal Tympos airport. At the beginning of his term, he said, when he went to Turkey and discussed it, the Turkish government rejected it, telling him that the besieged city of Famagusta is for them part of a comprehensive solution and if they were given back, the Greek Cypriots would have no incentive to solution to the Cyprus problem.

In his meeting with President Anastasiadis in May 2015, he continued, where he raised the issue, the reaction was not encouraging, but very soon after that meeting, talks resumed for a comprehensive solution.

"I say it constantly, whatever happens must be done within international law and without contradicting the UN. "Resolutions 550 and 789 speak of legal residents, meaning those who had title deeds in 1974. The Real Estate Commission and the ECtHR recognize those titles." Developments today, he added, show how valid his own proposal was then, for the return of Varosia and direct flights from the "airport" of Tympos.

Asked if the moves for Varosi would put pressure on the Greek Cypriot side, Mr. Akinci said that the Greek Cypriot side has been active in the international community against Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side on this issue and "tomorrow they may reach to the UN Security Council. What we do must be convincing, our intentions clear and our motives motivated for a solution. That is the way we should act. " "On the one hand you are talking about legal owners and on the other hand about the territory of the 'tdbk', on the other hand you are talking about the owners of 1974 and on the other hand about EVKAF," said Mr. Akinci, wondering if these are convincing and can be valid fair enough.

To discuss such an important issue without the "president", he continued, "the people understood what is happening", noting that the only institution that (on behalf of the Turkish Cypriots) talks about anything related to the Cyprus issue is the one elected by the / κ "people", in its expression. He said that from the UN Secretary General to the European Commission and the EP, officials met with him and discussed the Cyprus issue.

Asked if he expected a surprise step from Turkey on the Varos issue, Akinci said "I do not wish it", noting that Kudret Ozersay spoke about decisions to be taken after the "presidential election" and the opposition, Tufan Erhurman he stated that this discussion did not satisfy him. "After the 'elections', with the participation of all parties, in the context of international law and without confrontation with the UN, what can be done can be assessed," he added.

Commenting on the first discussion that took place in Turkey again by the Turkish Bar Association on the Cyprus issue and entitled "The last word in Cyprus", Mr. Akinci said that the last word in Cyprus can be said only by those who live in Cyprus. Certainly, he said, in dialogue with Turkey, as well as with the other sides. "I hope this last word will be good and will come with the solution."

Commenting that the area could be declassified as military, Mustafa Akinci said that this is not a bad thing if it is done and no one will object, adding that what needs to be done is in accordance with international law and the UN, so "he will not blame "None of us, not even Turkey."

Mr. Akinci spoke about deepening the division on the island that is now becoming apparent in every way and the e / k side must now see what course things have taken and that it is a course without return, as he said. The most important element that motivates the e / k side is to see the realities behind what we are experiencing now, he said, saying that "if it overcomes this, then much bigger problems await the whole island".
