New measures for the closed city of Famagusta are being prepared by the pseudo-state, according to the "deputy prime minister" and "minister of tourism", Fikri Ataoglou, who said that he had recent discussions in Ankara.
Ataoglou, in his statements to the "Anatolou" agency, argued that the name "closed Varosi" no longer corresponds to reality, as the area is open to the public at certain times.
He claimed that the area, which opened on October 8, 2020, attracts tourists and contributes significantly to the economy, not only of Famagusta, but also of the entire pseudo-state.
Mr. Ataoglou thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Ankara's support in opening Varossia, claiming that the move has already brought more than 2 million visitors to the area.
He noted that he discussed the new measures for the region with the Turkish Minister of Environment, Murat Kurum, during his recent visit to Turkey. In fact, he suggested to Kouroum that they visit Varosi together, in order to assess the situation and decide on the next steps.
Mr. Ataoglou said that they will not hesitate to proceed with the new measures, in cooperation with Turkey, with the aim of further strengthening the pseudo-state's economy. He claimed, finally, that Varosi is under the "absolute sovereignty" of the pseudo-state.
