I am not in the mood to celebrate, nor am I very happy about this election, declared the re-elected Mayor of Famagusta, Simos Ioannou, explaining that "we Famagusta people are just doing our duty, we are waiting for the day when we will return to our beloved city".
After his proclamation, on Tuesday, Mr. Ioannou promised that he will be the Mayor of all Famagusta residents, "I will never put party interest above and we will continue what we have done for the last 5 years». With more zeal they will continue, he said, mentioning that Famagusta is in a very difficult position. "There has been a violation of the status quo for 3 years and they will go to all international forums for this".
We will continue to keep the people of Famagusta united, he added, saying that he does not work individually, but collectively to accomplish what they have undertaken as the Municipality of Famagusta.
Simos Ioannou especially thanked his wife, children and friends, but also AKEL for supporting him, as well as those who stood by him from all parties. "And to promise them with the same zeal and the same love for all the people of Famagusta».
The announcement of the President of the Provincial Self-Governing Organization of Famagusta, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Municipal Councillors, School Board Members, Community Leaders and Community Council Members took place at the Famagusta Municipality Cultural Center in Deryneia.
