The Mayor of Famagusta Dr. Simos Ioannou and the Municipality's Delegation which consisted of the Deputy Mayor and representative of AKEL Mr. Chrysantho Zannettou, Mr. Giorgos Hatzitheodosiou and the Municipal Secretary Mrs. Today Marilena Manoli had a meeting with the Ambassador of Austria in Cyprus, Mrs Susanne Bachfischer.
During the meeting, the two sides thoroughly discussed the current situation in Cyprus and the need for a just and sustainable solution that would reunite the island.
The Mayor of Famagusta expressed his deep concern for the prolonged occupation of Famagusta and emphasized the importance of returning the city to its rightful residents.
He informed the Ambassador about the humanitarian challenges faced by the displaced residents of Famagusta and asked for Austria's active support in efforts to reach a solution that would allow them to return to their homes.
For her part, the Austrian Ambassador reiterated her country's firm support for a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, as defined in the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council. He underlined the importance of the active involvement of all Involved parties for the resumption of talks and the achievement of a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus issue.
