The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulidis, will have a meeting with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, on Monday morning, after the last interventions of the occupying force in the enclosed area of Famagusta. The meeting will take place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, when asked to comment on the latest developments, Kasoulides said that during the meeting he would remind that the Special Representative "had asked for some things that we could do for the benefit of the Turkish Cypriot community and we responded, therefore we demand a corresponding response from the other side, and not what we saw from the occupying authorities ".

Responding to a reporter's question about the effectiveness of the Confidence Building Measures (MOEs), the Foreign Minister replied that "if we do not proceed with the MOEs, more will be done, than what happened in Famagusta" and noted that "we must all realize "that whatever we are able to do in the enclosed area of Varos, we must do and that is what we are trying to do."

He also clarified that the MOE is not a package offered with the logic "take it or leave it". "We will negotiate it, they can make other proposals, which we will listen to, but for us, the main backbone of the whole effort is to save Famagusta", concluded Mr. Kasoulidis.
