Until 1974 the official celebrations of the Epiphany took place in Famagusta.

The Divine Liturgy took place in the Metropolitan Church of Agios Nikolaos and was followed by a procession with the officials and the thousands of believers.

The procession started from the Temple, crossed Dimokratias Avenue, to the sounds of the band of the Municipality of Famagusta and accompanied by an honorary procession from the army to the sea for the sanctification of the waters.

The gift for the swimmer was an image of a Saint from the churches of Famagusta.
