The pseudo-state is preparing to open the port of occupied Famagusta for ships from member states of the Organization of Turkish States (OTS), according to Turkish media.
The so-called "minister" of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arikli, said that Pseudorkatos, as an observer member of OTS, submitted an application a year ago to include the port of Famagusta in the "OTS Sister Ports" program.
The plan was discussed again at the informal summit of the OTS heads of state held in the Azerbaijani city of Susa on June 5, he added.
Arikli noted that there are a total of eight ports in the "OTS Sister Ports" program, including two from Turkey, and they are trying to make the port of Famagusta the ninth port of the program.
Arikli pointed to the increasing share of maritime transport in the volume of world trade every year, saying that the inclusion of the port of Famagusta in the program would be beneficial for both the pseudo-state and other OTS members.
In this context, he expressed the hope that Turkey will support their request.
"The development of political, cultural and commercial relations between OTS members would contribute to global stability both regionally and globally," Arikli stressed, adding: "We want the port of Famagusta, the most fortified place in the Eastern Mediterranean, to is a basis for the Turkish states. "
"Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, which want to participate in world trade, should be able to use the port of Famagusta as if it were their own port."
"We want to benefit from the growing maritime trade worldwide and we also want this situation to benefit our country politically," he added.
