Unvaccinated 90% of patients treated with coronavirus at the Referral Hospital

90% of the patients with coronavirus at the Reference Hospital have not been vaccinated, said to KYPE Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the General Hospitals Larnaca - Famagusta.

He added that "currently 72 patients are being treated at the Reference Hospital, six in the Intensive Care Unit as they need closer monitoring, four of which are intubated. The youngest patient is 23 years old and the oldest is 87 years old, with the average age of the people treated in the Hospital being 58 years ".

He added that "of the 72 patients, eight have been vaccinated against coronavirus, five with the first dose and three with the two doses of the vaccine. "The numbers show that 90% of the patients treated at the Reference Hospital have not been vaccinated."

Asked about the Walk-In Vaccination Center, he replied that "the creation of these Centers gave the opportunity and another incentive to the world to proceed with vaccination without having to proceed with the procedures through the Portal of the Ministry of Health. "This is a privilege to the public which must be exploited in order to acquire immunity to the coronavirus and return to normal."

However, he continued, "because people have been vaccinated, they should not avoid adhering to the strict and strict measures, that is, wearing a mask, keeping their distance and, of course, being protected by the use of antiseptic.

In another question, Ms. Hatzigianni replied that "unfortunately, with the increase of cases, the admissions of patients to the Intensive Care Units of the Hospitals also increase. Several people admitted to hospitals with Covid-19 they need intubation as they present a serious clinical picture, as a result of which the ICUs are burdened ".

He also reminded that "the coronavirus does not distinguish age but affects both young and old. "The symptoms of the patients during this period are severe pneumonia, with the result that their condition rapidly deteriorates their respiratory function," he said, noting that "the Delta mutation has a higher risk of disease and transmission."

As for the people who are hosted at the Eden Rehabilitation Center in Tersefanou, their number has reached 95 and will remain until their complete negativity ".
