The coronation pandemic brings the ups and downs of the holiday home rentals, drastically changing the climate in the domestic real estate market.

In the midst of a "stubborn" and different tourist season, market participants confirm that the holiday home will play a leading role in the preferences of those who choose to vacation in the summer of 2020. The truth is that after the unprecedented "storm" waged by the coronavirus, many Cypriots may not to take a vacation this year.

It remains uncertain how many foreign tourists will finally come to our country in the coming months, after such a turbulent period. However, as market experts explain, many Cypriots have decided to turn to a holiday home rental solution - not far from their place of permanent residence - most likely avoiding the hotel solution.

Specifically, according to the executive director of the company Giovani Group, Antonis Antoniou, there has been an increase of up to 50% in the rental of holiday homes by vacationers who come to the tourist resorts of our province from both Nicosia and Limassol. The traffic is expected to be particularly high from mid-July until the third week of August. Protaras is first on the list for a long time, but Ayia Napa is also in demand, while it seems that the vacationers prefer the houses with a swimming pool.

"The main reason for this growing trend," said Antoniou, "is for safety and health reasons." Most, he explains, believe that by renting a home, they can control the environment themselves, take care of the cleanliness of the space and not come into contact with many people, who may be patients with coronary heart disease.

The good image in the rental of holiday homes by Cypriots is contrary to the image of renting by tourists from other countries as there is a vertical decrease, and unfortunately, according to Mr. Antoniou, the situation is not balanced. The decrease in tourists in general leaves gaps and a decrease in the economy.
