"We will not allow a small minority to undermine the City's efforts for a solution."
The Municipality of Famagusta has issued an announcement in which it responds to the joint announcement issued by the Municipal Councilors of Famagusta, EDEK, ELAM and the Solidarity Movement.
This announcement:
Finally, the goal of the people who spearheaded the non-presence of our dear friend Suleiman Ulutsai at the anti-occupation event of our Municipality has been achieved.
Our compatriot Suleiman Ulutsai, demonstrating a high political stature, clarified to us that for no reason, he would not wish to create any problem in the smooth conduct of our anti-occupation event, nor would he wish his presence at the event to create any obstacles in the effort to resume conversations.
We clarify that, despite the efforts of all those who, with their extreme reactions, led to the cancellation of Mr. Ulutsai's presence, there is no way to disrupt the good relations we have built in the last months and that we will continue with even greater will and stubbornness the common effort for the reunification of our country. This is a common belief of Mr. Ulutsai.
Nor will we allow a small minority within the City Council to continue to flout and undermine the decisions of the overwhelming majority. This is what the Republic imposes. It is, however, questionable, and at the same time illogical, that party representatives in the Municipal Council have attended a constructive meeting with Mr. Ulutsai, even asking him to mediate on their personal affairs and later, in order to be liked by their party groups to change their attitude and spread lies.
The Municipality of Famagusta will continue its fight to stop the colonization of the enclosed area and for the return of all residents to our beloved city. We will not allow anyone, but anyone, who dresses in the mantle of ultra-patriotism to undermine the efforts of the Municipality for a solution within the agreed framework and under the auspices of the UN. It is the slippage from the right base and framework that has brought us in the past into very dangerous situations and closer to the final division.
Unfortunately we missed a huge opportunity. To give the opportunity to a genuine Cypriot and champion of solution and reunification, like Suleiman Ouluchai, to join his voice with ours and support the fight to return our city to its rightful owners.
PS The joint announcement issued by the Municipal Councilors of the 3rd parties (ELAM, EDEK, Solidarity) is not surprising at all. During the last 4 meetings, a thorough briefing on the organization of the Occupancy Event is carried out. Why this is being kept quiet is a matter for them to answer themselves. Otherwise, "the sane few". Our silence in response to them because no particular weight should be given to malicious, mischievous and offensive comments of a manipulative nature.
