The teachers' association of the "Peace and Freedom" High School responds through an announcement to the incident with the Nazi salute.
The teachers' association of the "Peace and Freedom" High School and Lyceum says it is following the public discourse that is developing with concern after the "illegal use and sharing" of a photo of school students "by the local organization of a political party." It calls for measures to "end the defamation" and protect the personal data of students and teachers.
As stated in a relevant press release, the school management prepared a report of events to the District Office of Secondary Education, Larnaca - Famagusta and the teachers' association, at its extraordinary meeting the day before yesterday, decided to send a letter to the Ministry of Education, making some points of it public.
In the letter to the Ministry of Education, the teachers state that the incident, which took place on Thursday, April 3, was immediately handled by the school administration, implementing the relevant protocol that not only does not encourage such behaviors, but, on the contrary, unequivocally condemns them.
The teachers denounce the "attempt to distort" the facts and the "stigmatization" of their colleagues who, with their course so far, "have demonstrated a high level of ethics, consistency and professionalism", adding that the action of their colleagues to prevent the students "proves that they did not remain apathetic during the incident".
The teachers' association expresses strong concern about the illegal possession and processing of personal data by "a specific political party, in violation of the relevant laws and regulations, and about the future use that the photograph may be used to the detriment of the school's students."
The association believes that the announcements by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the OELMEK demonstrate that the management of the issue by the school was based on appropriate procedures, placing the events in their true dimension.
However, it is reported that the political party in question returned yesterday (11/4/25), with an announcement from its headquarters, "undermining the climate of cooperation that the school is trying to cultivate", and adds that the announcement in question is full of "ambiguities, unfamiliar characterizations and proceeds with character assassination with ulterior motives".
The teachers' association calls on the competent bodies to take the necessary measures based on the legislation on the protection of personal data, "in order to end the defamation of the School, to protect the personal data and reputation of both students and teachers" while expressing concern about the "level of public debate and the normalization of hate speech" on Social Media, on the occasion of a specific "unfortunate incident".
