The Famagusta Recreation Centers Association (S.I.K.A.) comments on the allegations of profiteering in a statement, warning even with the immediate removal of a member if it is illegal, stating, however, that there is no price ceiling and the price lists are sealed by the CTO.

In a written statement, the President of S.I.K.A. Vasos Xydias "expresses his gratitude" to the people who chose to spend their holidays in the Province of Famagusta and to support "in these difficult times the economy of Cyprus and the province. ».

However, he added that "after the reports of a citizen for exact prices and profiteering, something is not happening for the first time" Mr. Xydias informs the public "about the legislation but also to restore the name of the restaurants that are affected every year, by such errors and some times, unfortunately targeted posts ".

After stating that "there is no ceiling in Cypriot law, unless required by law" he adds that "no customer of a restaurant can complain that he was stolen, since the price lists of each restaurant, before it starts operating, are checked and sealed." by the Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO). Each restaurant is required to have a price list posted by the CTO before entering, so that the customer can judge whether he will even enter the restaurant and whether his prices are within the measures he wants to consume.

In his announcement, Mr. Xydias also notes that "prices are also recorded in the price tag stamped by the CTO that the customer receives at the table to choose what he wants to order, so that he can judge if and what he will order to eat and in case what you ask for is expensive then you can go to another restaurant. In other words, the same thing happens in restaurants as in a store where the prices are listed on the products and the consumer chooses to buy or not ".

The President of S.I.K.A. characterizes "it is wrong for someone to publish in the media that the restaurant, or automatically the restaurants are thieves. The characterization of obscenity is lost as long as the prices were the customer's choice before he even entered the restaurant and of course before ordering ".

He also states that "the only reason for complaining about profiteering is whether the restaurant charges different prices and products than those approved by the CTO. In such a case, the customer must report it to the CTO which is the competent Organization, with the penalties being huge and even immediate suspension of the operation of the premises ".

The statement added that "we, as the Association, will be relentless in the event of a scandal and will proceed with the immediate removal of our member if this is illegal."
