A 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday by members of the Akrotiri British Bases Police and taken into custody.
Specifically, on August 31, 2024, a 23-year-old woman reported to the Famagusta Municipal Court that, while she was in the hotel room where she lives in the province of Famagusta, she was attacked by a man she had met a short time before, who, according to the complaint, beat her and tried to strangle her causing her to lose consciousness.
When the 23-year-old regained consciousness, she called for help. Bystanders spotted her and after an ambulance was called, she was taken to Famagusta General Hospital where she was given first aid.
During the investigation of the case, testimony emerged against the 20-year-old arrested, against whom a judicial arrest warrant was issued and he was wanted.
In the context of the cooperation of the Cyprus Police and the Police of the British Bases and following information from the TAE Famagusta, the 20-year-old was located inside the British Bases and arrested.
Today he is expected to be brought before the Court of British Bases to follow the judicial procedure for his surrender to the Authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.
