The Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Mr. Giorgos Nikolettos, met today with the President of the Winter Amateur Basketball Championship, Mr. Dimitris Varzakakos, in the context of the opening of the 12th Panhellenic Basketball Championship for Veterans and Old-timers, which is being hosted by the Municipality.
During the meeting, the Mayor received from Mr. Varzakakos a commemorative T-shirt of the event, which is co-organized and hosted by the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, confirming the importance of cooperation for the successful implementation of major sporting events.
The games will be held in four stadiums of the Municipality: at "Palataki" in Paralimni, at the Indoor Stadium of the Paralimni High School, at the Indoor Stadium of the Anagennisi Deryneia and at the Indoor Stadium of the Frenaros High School. The event will take place over the three-day period of May 1 to 3, 2026 and has attracted over 1.000 athletes and supporters.
The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 09:00 at the "Palataki" indoor stadium in Paralimni.
As the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia stated, hosting important sports events strengthens the Municipality's potential as a sports tourism destination and contributes substantially to promoting the place to a wider audience, while at the same time creating lively mobility in the local society and economy.
