A young motorcyclist from Avgoros, 32 years old, died in a car accident near Xylotymbou in the province of Larnaca at noon.
According to Andreas Pitsillidis, Police Director of the British Base of Dhekelia, "today at around 12.30 at noon there was a car accident along the Larnaca-Famagusta road, despite the intersection of the village of Xylotympou", where a motorcycle was involved in the accident. 32 years old from Avgorou and a double-cab car that was also driven by a 25-year-old Greek Cypriot from Deryneia.
The collision occurred when the double-cab car heading to the free area of Famagusta turned right at the intersection of Xylotymbos, as a result of which it blocked the course of the motorcycle coming from the free province of Famagusta to Larnaca.
The driver of the car did not suffer anything from the collision, while during an alcohol test performed on him by members of the Dekelia Base Police, the indication was negative.
An ambulance and doctors from the Base Hospital were called to the scene and after offering the First Aid to the motorcyclist, he was then transported to the Hospital of Dhekelia. At around 12.49pm, however, the Base Doctor confirmed the death of the 32-year-old man who was wearing a protective helmet.
Police cordoned off the area, the traffic was channeled through Xylotymbou and the examination of the scene and the taking of testimonies by people present at the scene began.
According to Mr. Pitsillidis, "the Base Police is examining all the possibilities" for the causes of the new fatal accident, while the driver of the double-cab car was arrested for facilitating the examinations.
