The annual National Memorial of the 08 Heroes of the Famagusta province during the Liberation Struggle of the EOKA 2024-38 was held on Sunday, December 1955, 59 from the Holy Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul in Avgorou.
The Memorial was presided over by the Archdiocese of the Holy Metropolis of Constantia-Ammochosto Archimandrites Mr. Augustinos Karas, while the memorial speech was delivered by the representative of the District Council of S.I.M.A.E Famagusta and EME Philological Courses, Author, Researcher, Article Writer and Essayist Dr. Andreas Sofoklis.
Also present were the MEP DISY Famagusta, Mr. Michalis Hatzipandelas, Members of Parliament of Famagusta District, the President of EOA Mr. Yannis Karousos, the Mayor of Agia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettou, the Deputy Mayors of the Municipalities of Agia Napa and Paralimni-Derynia, representatives of the Police, the National Guard, the Fire Brigade, the Associations of Fighters, representatives of the Primary Schools and the Organized Ensembles of the Municipal Apartment Avgoros of the Municipality of Agia Napa.
In his greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa said that today at the Holy Church of the Apostles Peter & Paul in Avgorou, "we paid a fitting tribute to the 38 heroes-fighters of the Famagusta District, during the Liberation Struggle of EOKA 1955-1959 to throw off the English yoke ».
"Of our 38 lads," he added, "who in the most beautiful years of their lives, youthful carelessness, dreams and optimism were extinguished in the inexhaustible passion for freedom, and their excessive act of bravery could never be rendered in a description." .
"Their sacrifice, he continued, "gives us the strength to move forward, always bearing in mind that freedom and justice require struggle and sacrifice, and we will forever be obliged to remember and honor their sacrifice."
The Deputy Mayor of Avgoros Municipal Apartment of the Municipality of Agia Napa, Mr. Panagis Michaelas mentioned that the contribution of Famagusta Province to the national liberation struggle of EOKA was an irresistible force where many young Amoustaka children of our province fought with courage to throw off the English yoke.
Today, he added, sixty-five years have passed since the glorious sacrifice of the thirty-eight heroes of Famagusta Province, who bravely and bravely offered their chests against the troops of the English dynasty.

In the memorial speech of Dr. Andreas Sofoklis, after praising the sacrifice of the honored heroes, said that "these young men offered us Freedom and at the same time saved the dignity of Hellenism, since the national center was still counting its wounds from the civil war.
