Two separate works by the Regional Agricultural TESEK of Famagusta/Avgorou adorn the entrance to the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Cyprus from Monday, January 12, in the context of Cyprus' assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
This is the Logo of the European Presidency and the Living Plant Sculpture, which symbolically and artistically captures the vision of the Cyprus Presidency, highlighting the role of Cyprus as a bridge connecting Europe with the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
The living plant sculpture depicts Cyprus as the goddess Aphrodite. In one hand she holds the rising sun of the East, a symbol of the beginning of civilization, the life-giving force in a dry and bright environment, but also of the collective memory and energy of the peoples living under the same sky.
In her other hand she holds the circle of twelve stars of the European flag, which symbolizes the unity, equality, harmony and hope of the member states of the European Union. Through this composition, the work highlights the timeless role of Cyprus as a connecting link between East and West.
The two projects are the fruit of the creative collaboration of students from the Agriculture and Mechanics departments of the Regional Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training Center of Famagusta/Avgorou, under the guidance of instructors Maria Panayi and Stavros Neos. They were created on the occasion of Cyprus' assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and reflect the high level of education, skills and creativity that characterizes Technical and Vocational Education.
The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, expressed his deep satisfaction and pride for the fact that two creations of the school were chosen to adorn the entrance of the Presidential Palace of Cyprus. At the same time, he extended warm congratulations to the students, as well as to the teachers of the Regional Agricultural TESEK of Famagusta / Avgorou, which is located in the Municipal District of Avgorou of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
"With their creativity, knowledge and collective effort," he added, "they honored not only their school and our local community, but also the entire Cyprus. Their work is living proof of the value and potential of Technical Education."
He also expressed his warm thanks to the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training for the trust it showed by entrusting the implementation of such an important project to a school in the area.
