Touching moments were experienced on the evening of Wednesday 13 November by those who attended the event organized by "Agia Napa 2030" candidate cultural capital of Europe within the framework of the Festival of Ideas at the "Giorgos Seferis" Cultural Center of Ayia Napa and listened to what he told about his life and work of the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, his close collaborator and biographer, Mr. Giorgos Logothetis, while they then watched the documentary from the historic "Zorpa" concert given by the acclaimed musician in Skopje in 1997.
In the context of his presentation, Mr. Logothetis referred to the fact that the innovative and great project "Axion Esti" was presented for the first time by Mikis Theodorakis himself in Cyprus as well as to the unforgettable experiences he had with him on his trip to Cyprus after the 1974 war where they visited different areas with makeshift tents where the refugees lived, reviving the memories of many of the attendees who experienced those tragic moments first hand.
Welcoming the attendees, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Agia Napa, Mr. Antonis Christou, congratulated the "Agia Napa 2030" Organization for the effort it is making to claim the title of European Capital of Culture in 2030 and assured the support of the Municipality in all their efforts.
The artistic director of the Organization Ms. Tasoula Kallenou stated that the start of this important journey is in honor of the priceless legacy of Mikis Theodorakis, a man who embodied with his work and life, the timeless values of art, freedom and human dignity and who succeeded through music of connecting culture with social care, making him a global ambassador of Greek ideas and struggles for justice and democracy.
Ayia Napa Festival of Ideas 2030 aspires to enhance and showcase the timeless influence of art and music on our culture and society. Mrs. Kallenou did not fail to thank the President of the Ayia Napa 2030 Organization, Mr. Yannis Karousos, as well as the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettos, for their valuable support in their vision of an Ayia Napa that highlights culture as a pillar of development and cohesion.
He expressed special thanks to Mr. Giorgos Logothetis, who noted, "with his many years of dedication to the biography and the work of Theodorakis, he brings to us the core of the creation and ideas of this great artist and together with Mrs. Fotini Logothetis, they provide us with the unique opportunity to delve into a heritage that touches our hearts."
Then the internationally acclaimed Cypriot artist Mr. Stavros Sideras, a close friend of Mr. George Logothetis, spoke about Mr. Logothetis in the best words and said that he is the man who succeeded through his many years of experience alongside Mikis Theodorakis to record and transfer to an image through documentaries and books, thus managing to leave a great legacy to future generations.
Speaking about the reasoning behind the decision to organize the seminars with Mr. Logothetis, Mr. Sideras said that he wanted to organize this informative evening about the great moments that George Logothetis lived next to Mr. Theodorakis. Moments, which are depicted in his documentaries and books, in which the great composer, through his Music and poetry, talks about Democracy, Freedom and human dignity. Referring to the candidacy of Ayia Napa, Stavros Sideras said that despite the fact that at the moment it is considered by many to be the outsider, he believes that Ayia Napa will claim the title with claims.
