Ayia Napa: The Medieval Monastery will soon open its Gates

A meeting was held for the upcoming delivery of the "Transformation of the Medieval Monastery into a Museum" project

A meeting chaired by the Mayor, Mr. Christos Zannettos, took place today (Wednesday 05 June 2024) where information was given on the imminent delivery of the project "Conversion of the Medieval Monastery into a Museum".

It will soon open its Gates to the public

For the completion of the works and for the last actions so that the Medieval Monastery will soon open its Gates to the public, the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Christos Zannettos was informed by the architect, the contractor and his team in the presence of the Municipal Engineer in a meeting which took place today, Wednesday, June 05, at the site of the Medieval Monastery.

This is a very important project, which includes a Museum with important exhibits of incalculable value and an archaeological site with finds, which have been found during excavations after the start of the project work. A project, which will revive the spirituality of the space and highlight the history and culture of both Ayia Napa and Cyprus in general

The Mayor Mr. Christos Zannettou expressed his satisfaction that a landmark project for Ayia Napa and which will be a pole of attraction for religious and cultural tourism, which will contribute to the maximum support of the tourism industry, is on its way to completion.

Within the next three weeks, he added, the project will be handed over to the Museologists so that they can organize the spaces and start placing the exhibits. Regarding the long delay observed in the execution of the project, Mr. Zannettou stated that it is mainly due to the antiquities that have been found, but also to other factors and processes, since the Monastery is an exceptional Monument that needs special attention in the interventions that are carried out.
