Two British tourists aged 22 and 23 were arrested on 1/1/23 by members of the Famagusta traffic police who were found with a quantity of cannabis, while the 23-year-old driver was found to be driving under the influence of drugs.

Specifically, at the disputed time shortly after 10:00 in the morning, while members of the Famagusta traffic police were conducting a traffic control in Ayia Napa, they stopped for control a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old British tourist with a 22-year-old compatriot as his passenger.

During the inspection, a member of the traffic police found the smell of cannabis emerging from the interior of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a pack of cigarettes containing a quantity of brown cannabis-resin solid weighing 0,2877 grams.

Both persons were arrested for self-inflicted crime, while a preliminary drug test conducted on the 23-year-old driver was positive for cannabis.

The YKAN Famagusta and the Police Station of Agia Napa are investigating.
