The arrest of a 30-year-old man from Bulgaria, a permanent resident of Paralimni, was carried out yesterday by members of the Famagusta Police Department, regarding the investigated crimes of nighttime housebreaking and theft, illegal possession of property and theft from a car.
Specifically on 30/06/2024 it was reported by a Russian citizen, permanent resident of Limassol that during the morning hours between the dates 29 – 30 June 2024 his room in a hotel unit in Ayia Napa was broken into and electronic devices and various personal items were stolen from there, total worth 1600 euros.
Yesterday 30/06/2024 and around 1200 hours the complainant received a notification on his mobile phone that one of the stolen devices and specifically a pair of airpods emitted a signal from a beach in Ayia Napa.
Members of the Ayia Napa Police Station went to the area and from tests carried out they identified the 30-year-old.
A subsequent investigation found in the shoulder bag carrying the aforementioned airpods as well as other property for which he was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation as to the legality of its possession and he was arrested for the automatic offense of illegal possession of property.
Then, when interrogated, the 30-year-old admitted to committing the above burglary and was subsequently re-arrested pursuant to a judicial arrest warrant and remained in custody.
Today 01/07/2024 the 30-year-old arrested appeared before the District Court of Famagusta where a pre-trial detention order was issued against him for a period of four (4) days. The TAE of Famagusta continues the exams.
