Gold medal for Maria Antoniou, who took part in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions held on August 28 in Romania.
In particular, the 17-year-old athlete from Ayia Napa took part in the ADCC games, where she managed to excel and win the gold medal, spreading smiles and pride both to her family and her team, as well as to our Province.
Speaking to Famagusta.News, Maria Antoniou noted that this is a sport that is not that widespread in our country and that domestic competitions are rarely held. As a result, he said, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes often travel abroad to compete.
"I started practicing this sport in July 2020 at the NickBJJ school in Paralimni. A friend of mine pushed me to start training and I immediately felt familiar with the team. I decided to get more serious."
Maria, who still has a gold medal from competitions held a few months ago in Cyprus, said that daily practice is required, stressing that anyone who wants to get involved and succeed in the sport must really want it and leave the ego out.
Finally, 17-year-old Maria wanted to express her thanks to the team and her coach, who has supported her all this time.
