The Police are investigating two cases of theft by trick, in which the perpetrators succeeded in stealing from unsuspecting citizens, a sum of money in excess of 14 thousand euros.

Both cases involved persons who visited two shops in the provinces of Limassol and Famagusta and asked to convert an amount of dollars into euros.

He stole more than 4,5 thousand in Ayia Napa by trick

At first indent (24/8) in a store in the free area of ​​Famagusta, the suspect asked a store employee to change an amount of 5,500 US dollars into euros, handing him a bundle of money, which consisted of 54 100 and two 50 dollar bills .

At some point during the process of counting the money, the suspect asked the clerk for his money back in order to check it again, which the clerk did.

After the transaction was completed, the complainant then went to a money exchange to convert the dollars into euros, where he found that he was in possession of 54 one-dollar bills and two $50 bills (a total of $154 instead of $5,500).

A similar case in Limassol

In the second case, in Limassol (24/8), the suspect asked a store employee in Limassol to change an amount of 10,000 US dollars into Euros, handing him a bundle of money, with 99 100 and two 50 dollar bills .

At some point during the process of counting the money, the suspect asked the clerk for his money back in order to check it again, which the clerk did.

Subsequently, after the transaction was completed, the complainant rechecked the money he received, where he found that the bundle of money in his possession consisted of 98 one-dollar bills and two more 50-dollar bills (a total of $198 instead of 10,000).
