Political asylum seekers in Ayia Napa were found today outside the area where they were being accommodated. This is a large number, the majority of them from Syria and Africa, among them also small children.

According to reports, the owner's contract with the government expired on May 31 and the occupants would therefore have to find accommodation.

According to the asylum seeker's statements, "we all have family... on the first of June, two buses came and took some families to Larnaca, the bus came back, there was no place available for them to stay in Larnaca. I don't know what to do there are no apartments available. I feel stressed."

Social Welfare Services are trying to manage the situation to find a solution.

The Deputy Director of Social Welfare, Maria Kyratzii, stated in her statements that "efforts continue to be made so that these people are guided and networked according to the amount of help they need so that they can be rehabilitated in more permanent solutions in the community, that is, in homes. This choice certainly refers to integration, since their stay in a hotel can in no way be considered their permanent rehabilitation".

It is pointed out that a large number of asylum seekers are accommodated in the province of Famagusta and mainly in Ayia Napa.
