A 29-year-old man who allegedly confessed to three rapes of women in the free province of Famagusta was referred today to a trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca - Famagusta, which will meet on June 22.

Today, the detention order of the 22-year-old expired and the Police took him before the District Court of Famagusta, which referred him for trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca - Famagusta.

The offenses faced by the 22-year-old concern kidnapping or kidnapping in order to subject a person to sexual abuse, kidnapping, rape, sexual abuse by penetration and obscene assault against a woman.

It is recalled that between April 18 and mid-May, the Police in the free province of Famagusta received three complaints from tourists living in Ayia Napa, that an unknown person raped them.

Police secured video footage from the closed-circuit surveillance and one of the complainants allegedly identified the 22-year-old as the person who reported her rape.

A citizen allegedly recognized the person from a photo and gave information about his place of residence.

The suspect was arrested on Monday (May 23rd) and remanded in custody. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to the Police the three rapes of the visitors who submitted a complaint.

The young man was brought before the District Court of Famagusta on Tuesday, May 24, which issued a detention order against him for eight days.

The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
