The video in question is in the hands of the Police, which is circulating on Social Media and which shows people - employees of a local authority in the province of Famagusta, who use excessive force on a stray dog, trying to load it into a car.

In its announcement, the Cyprus Police states:

"Regarding the incident with the dog in the province of Famagusta, the Police have already proceeded to take statements and are investigating the case."

For its part, the Party for the Animals of Cyprus issued a statement:

This announcement:

“Scary, brutal and abominable way of capturing an abandoned dog

A video that was circulated on social media and sent to the Party for the Animals of Cyprus shows an employee of the Municipality of Ayia Napa literally 'dragging' a dog that he arrested with the method of lasso and other officials shouting that he will go for euthanasia to " learn “, to be punished etc.

These are methods of the past and it does not matter to anyone to treat and treat animals in this way and in this case a stray abandoned animal. It is a shame and disgrace for the Municipality of Ayia Napa which had shown its animal welfare action until today.

The Party for the Animals of Cyprus condemns such behaviors wherever they come from and calls for an immediate investigation by the police regarding the two laws 46 (I) 1994 and 182 (I) 2002 on welfare and dog laws, on barbaric and criminal behavior. and the miserable way in which Ayia Napa Municipality officials used to arrest the innocent animal.

We inform that the Party spoke with the Mayor of Ayia Napa who has already ordered an investigation into the incident and informed us that the dog will be examined by a veterinarian and the dog will be taken over personally by the Mayor.

We demand that after the investigation of the incident that the videos speak with real images and prove this disgraceful behavior and violence by the employees of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, they be arrested immediately and brought to justice for the charges against them for these cowards. acts.

The Party for the Animals of Cyprus with the members of the Famagusta Provincial Committee and our parliamentary candidates are closely following the case and are in constant contact with the above-mentioned authorities and will expect the result of the investigation into this case from the police, explanations from the veterinary services on how they finally understand the procedures for the capture of these animals and by the Municipality of Ayia Napa on how the employees of the Municipality finally acted as they see or if there are and are such abominable procedures or protocols that are followed or if the employees they do whatever they want.

We will not let this case fall on deaf ears and we ask again and urge all citizens to make complaints and testimonies so that these cases can be brought to justice, for those who do not have a voice.
