Many restaurants are forced to close due to new measures taken by the Government to stem the pandemic. Support from the programs is not for everyone, which makes the situation even more difficult.

One of the restaurants is Old Town which despite its efforts did not manage to stay open all winter.

Ο Mr. George Cleanthous, restaurant manager Stroico Center, in his statements to FamagustaNews, he said disappointed that Sunday 16/01 is the last day of operation of the restaurant.

This is a store that has just opened and according to Mr. Cleanthous, is forced to close due to the measures taken by the Government to the detriment of businesses. The measures implemented since December 15 have made the situation worse. The efforts made by the restaurant to keep it open were enormous. However, the company's statistics show that the work fell sharply with the implementation of new measures for vaccinated and unvaccinated.

This particular restaurant as pointed out by his manager at Famagusta News, relies on the locals and mainly on families and children's parties, because of the playground it has. It was impossible for him to cope with these conditions and the specific protocols.

What they are waiting for and hoping for is new measures, which will allow even with a rapid test of the day the world to visit the restaurants.

According to what Mr. Cleanthous told us, the store has a very good chef and tries to support the local market. They buy fresh ingredients from local markets while at the same time trying to contribute to our market as much as possible so that everyone can slowly get back on their feet.

They never received support from the government, with the exception of the two weeks of lockdown in April 2021 when the government sent aid to staff. According to the manager of the restaurant, the reasons why the Government did not support this restaurant was because the store is new and there are no receipts from the previous year.
