On the morning of Saturday, October 29, 2022, His Eminence the Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta, Mr. Vasilios, laid the foundation stone for the newly erected chapel of the Resurrection of the Savior, within the new cemetery of Agia Napa.
This new church is a wish of the family of the Reverend Mr. Christos Kitazos, a warm supporter in the work of our Holy Metropolis, in memory of the blessed Archimandrite Haritos Mahairiotis, (near whose grave it was erected) and of all those who are sleeping, spent and other pious residents of Ayia Napa.
In his short speech, Metropolitan Vasilios referred to the spiritual meaning of the foundation of a holy space and the placement of the Holy Cross, which gives the meaning of the Church of Christ, who rose on the Cross to offer salvation to the whole human race.
He reminded that in our country there are three Stauropigiac Monasteries (Kykkou, Machira and Agios Neophytos), later the Holy Synod also raised the Holy Monastery of the Apostle Barnabas to a crucifix, where a special Holy Cross was placed on them to make it appear that it was founded on to him. Of course, he added, the excavations showed that T. Stavros was always placed independently.
He congratulated all those who contributed to the construction of the holy temple, in a place where the concept of death warns us and prepares us for the common Resurrection of all people. He wished "that God's blessing accompany our lives and bring joy to everyone, so that we can overcome whatever difficulties are plaguing our world today and that Jesus Christ be the Peace between us".
The ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yannis Karousos, the Mayor of Agia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettos, the Mayor of the Community, Antonis Hatzichristos, clergy of the Holy Metropolis, representatives of organizations and a number of believers.
