This is the message of the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, Ms. Despos Michailidou, on the International Day of the Rights of the Child - November 20, 2021

"On November 20, 1989, a landmark day, the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. By doing so, the international community has highlighted the vision of a society that invests in children and defends their rights, while sealing the States' commitment to the child as a body of rights.

At a critical time, when humanity is plagued by unprecedented challenges and dilemmas, seeking answers and solutions to critical issues such as pandemics and climate change, it is time to get rid of the "I" and put aside any differences. It is time to celebrate this important day, discovering the values that are waiting to emerge through the insistence of humanity to stay alive, to get rid of the weights that sink it, to highlight the hidden treasures of human nature and the fundamental Principles they give value and meaning to Man and his struggle.

We are not allowed to remain uninvolved observers of what is happening around us as if it does not concern us, indifferent to what prevents us from living
free and enjoy the goods of life. It requires action, critical thinking and critical review of our choices, decisions and actions, leaving behind sterile perceptions and pathogens that keep us stuck.

The action we chose this year, to honor this important day, took place at the MUSAN Underwater Museum where man meets the wealth of the seabed. With images and symbols, 4 divers dived and depicted the 4 Principles of the Convention: the Principle of Development, Participation, Non-Discrimination and Ensuring the Interest of the Child. They dived to bring to the surface the immediate demand for the protection of the rights of the Child, in all their breadth: deep and rich like the vast sea. ”
