The 1st Medical Conference on cancer organized by the Association "Scent of Ayia Napa" Friends of Sculpture Park on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the "Giorgos Seferis" Cultural Center in Ayia Napa, was completed.
Welcoming the attendees, the President of the Association "Scent of Ayia Napa" Friends of the Sculpture Park, Mr. Christakis Pittas, stated that the Association, in the context of its social contribution, felt the need, since cancer has entered almost every family and afflicts millions of our fellow human beings every day. to organize the 1st Medical Congress on the topic of cancer with invited distinguished and leading scientific doctors in their specialty, to present their proposals regarding modern techniques for treating the disease, so that, as he said, "we can all share the perspectives opened by the scientific community to deal with cancer with the new techniques, technologies it has today at its disposal".
Mr. Pittas also mentioned the history of the Association as well as the founder and Honorary President of the late Kikis Konstantinou, to whose memory the Conference is dedicated. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to His Excellency PtD Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis who placed the Conference under the auspices, the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Christos Zannettos and the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Departments of the Municipality for their support, the distinguished medical scientists who responded positively, to the sponsors and supporters and all those who worked for the successful outcome of the Conference.
In his own greeting, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettos, stated that the organization of the 1st Medical Conference is a great honor for the entire region of the Municipality of Ayia Napa and demonstrates in the most practical way that the Municipality is not only a pioneer in the organization of cultural events, but can to organize and host major events and important conferences with the participation of leading scientists and doctors from Cyprus and abroad.
As a Local Authority, he added, we applaud and congratulate the organization of such actions to inform the public on key, medical-related issues that concern the health of the whole and contribute to improving the quality of life of the Cypriot citizen through a patient-centered philosophy.
The importance of continuous public information continued, as well as the exhortation for voluntary contribution of everyone, are indisputable tools in the quality upgrade of health services to citizens.
In the greeting read by the member of the Board of Directors of the "Scent of Ayia Napa" Friends of Sculpture Park Mrs. Florentia Savva, the President of the Pan-Cypriot Medical Association (PIS) Mr. Petros Agathangelou after congratulating the Association for their excellent effort to focus on such an important health issue that touches many families in Cyprus and internationally stated that the Pancypriot Medical Association supports such initiatives that highlight the value of cooperation and scientific progress for the common good.
The Citizen's Commissioner Mr. Panagiotis Palates said that today's conference demonstrates the intense social sensitivity of the Association's members and extends its action and interest in the health sectors, specifically in the issue of information and combating the scourge of cancer.
Given the rapid increase in cancer patients and the general concern and anxiety surrounding prevention issues, initiatives such as today's are necessary and imperative, he added. He noted that the quality of life of a society is inextricably linked to health issues and their treatment concerns all citizens.
After the greetings, the Professor of History at Neapolis Paphos University and former Ambassador of Cyprus in Athens, Mr. Giorgos Giorgis, made his own intervention on the topic "Cancer in Antiquity" - Its Treatment by Kikis Constantinou.
Then the four distinguished medical scientists, Dr. Nikolaos Zampoglou spoke on the topic, "New Perspectives in Oncology", Dr. Emmanuel Georgiannakis on "Lung Cancer - Modern surgical techniques", Dr. Panagiotis Kyzas developed the topic "State-of the-art surgical management of H & N cancer: Pushing the boundaries and Dr. Nikolaos Spernovasilis spoke on the topic "Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Opportunities and Challenges.
The conference, which should be noted is the first medical conference organized in Ayia Napa and in the Free Province of Famagusta, was embellished with two songs by Nefeli Antoniou and honorary diplomas and plaques were awarded to the Mayor of Ayia Napa, the delegates and the supporters of the Association.
