At the invitation of the students of E3 class, the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Christos Zannettou visited yesterday (Wednesday, June 16, 2021) the Primary School of Ayia Napa - Antonis Tsokkou where he was informed about the actions and proposals of the students to reduce our ecological fingerprint.
After describing the activities they carried out at school, such as lectures to their classmates, publishing leaflets and tri-folds, placing information boards in prominent places of the school (to reduce water, energy, electricity, garbage, etc.), the students presented to him innovative proposals for further reduction of the ecological footprint as they formed them through their involvement in the STEM courses and the European research program ATS STEM 2020.
The children, as mentioned by the Director of the School, Mr. George Konstantinou, worked in groups and built models of vegetable gardens / herb gardens by installing special sensors to detect soil moisture, so that they can be watered automatically. At the same time, he told them that they are at their disposal to submit their suggestions to the Local Authority with all courage and that what they have done today is a very important incentive to raise public awareness for the adoption of environmentally friendly practices.
He also assured that the Municipality will support every initiative of its citizens aimed at improving the environment, especially the children, who, as he said, are the future of this place.
Mr. Zannettou undertook the responsibility to convey the proposals to the Municipal Council and the commitment that those that are possible will be realized. Then each student was awarded a commemorative diploma of active citizenship.
