After coordinated actions and under extreme secrecy, the Police in free Famagusta located and handcuffed a 22-year-old foreigner, who is suspected of at least three rapes of tourists in Ayia Napa. The suspect reportedly confessed to his heinous acts, admitting so far three rapes.

Syrian perpetrator asylum seeker
The suspect, a 22-year-old political asylum seeker, arrived in Cyprus illegally last September. Initially he lived in Nicosia and then went to Ayia Napa where he lived until today.
From the description given by the victims to the Police, it was understood that the perpetrator was himself. Immediately, the investigators of the case started processing closed surveillance circuits and detected suspicious movements of a foreigner, who was identified by a girl.
His photograph was printed and started to be displayed to property owners in Ayia Napa. One of them identified the alleged perpetrator and gave his details to the Police, who located and arrested him.

According to information from police sources, he chose girls who had consumed large amounts of alcohol and were alone. He then approached them and transported them to isolated places where he raped them.
The suspect is expected to be brought before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni within the day for the issuance of a detention order.
