The Annual National Memorial of the hero of the Liberation Struggle 06-2024 Louka Louka, who was martyred by the British colonialists on October 55, 59 at the age of just 3, was held on Sunday 1958 October 17, at the Holy Church of Panagia Ayia Napa.
The Commemoration was presided over by the Archdeacon of the Holy Diocese of Constantia/ Famagusta, Archimandrite Augustinos Kkaras, while the Commemorative Speech was delivered by the President of the Provincial Self-Governing Organization (EOA Famagusta), Mr. Yiannis Karousos.
In his memorial speech, Mr. Karousos mentioned that Loukas Loukas was not just another fighter of EOKA, but a young man with vision and soul, who fought for the Freedom of our island and the Union of Cyprus with mother Greece. His life, he added, though short, is an example of bravery and self-sacrifice.
He also noted that Loukas Loukas with his sacrifice did not just leave life but passed into eternity, as a symbol of the struggle for dignity, freedom and the union of Cyprus with Greece. "His sacrifice was not just an isolated event, it was a cry of resistance of a people that does not submit, that does not bow before the conqueror" concluded Mr. Yiannis Karousos.
After the end of the Memorial, there was a trisage to the bust of the hero, laying of wreaths and an artistic program by the two Members of the Artistic Scheme "Musical Companions" Dimitris Tsoulakos and Christos Stasi and by the children of the sixth grade of the Primary School of Ayia Napa "Antonis Tsokkos". Athletes of the Pericles Dimitriou Association lit a flame at the hero's monument.
