The project is even more critical at this time given the increasing number of plastics used and ending up in marine ecosystems, as plastics remain in the environment for hundreds of years.
Veronika Blach, Head of Environmental Programs at the TUI Care Foundation, said:
"Plastic marine pollution is a huge threat to the natural environment on which tourism is based. "Now, more than ever, it is important to work together, bringing together businesses, governments, NGOs and society to ensure that we recover as environmentally friendly as possible."
Nicoletta Erotokritou and Costas Kasapis, Coordinator Teachers for sculpture from Paralimni High School, stated:
"Evdokia, which means expect, was prepared by students of Paralimni High School with the expectation that they will contribute to the abolition of disposable plastic in the area."
Katie James, Travel Foundation Destination Program Manager, said:
"This beautiful sculpture will not only keep the issue of plastic pollution visible in Ayia Napa, but also point out how useful the practical solutions are. It is important to promote the reduction and reuse of items where possible and to dispose of disposable plastics responsibly. ”
