The Municipality of Ayia Napa is proceeding with the erection of the bust of the hero Georgios P. Katsiaris, who fell heroically fighting during the Turkish Invasion of 1974, at the site of the Liopetri "AgaliaZO" Community Center.
This action is a fulfillment of the family's wish for the agreement that had been made when the Hero's father, Mr. Panagiotis Katsiaris, offered the building in which the Center is currently housed for free, on the condition that a bust of the Hero be erected in front of the building.

The contract for the sculpture of the bust was recently signed by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the well-known Cypriot Sculptor, Mr. Panagiotis Pasandas, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Liopetri, Mr. Markos Koumis.
In his statements, Mayor Mr. Christos Zannetou said that "with the implementation of this project we honor the Hero, but also the great benefactor Mr. Panagiotis Katsiaris, who with his generous donation contributed to the social support of the then Community Council of Liopetri. The Municipality of Ayia Napa demonstrates its respect and gratitude in practice."

For his part, Sculptor Mr. Panagiotis Pasandas stated that it is a great honor for him to be commissioned to create a bust with such great historical and emotional weight. “I will work with absolute respect, so that the work reflects the value and greatness of the Hero,” he concluded.
The Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Liopetri, Mr. Markos Koumis, noted that the bust of Georgios P. Katsiaris in front of the building of the SKE Liopetri will forever remind us of the great sacrifice of the hero but also of the great contribution of his father. "We have proceeded with the implementation of this project," he added, as a sign of respect and gratitude.
