In addition to being a popular tourist destination worldwide, Ayia Napa from May 31 - June 30, 2025 is becoming the epicenter of the global art scene, with the holding of the 1st World Art Triennial "Agia Napa 2025", which officially opens its gates on Saturday, May 31, with a magnificent opening ceremony by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, which will be honored with the presence of important figures in Art and Culture such as the President of the Group of Language, Art and Culture for UNESCO Greece, Ms. Nina Diakovasili, Ms. Andrea Stanic, International Judge from Croatia, etc.
This is a milestone event for the cultural life of Cyprus, which will last until the end of June, hosting over 90 renowned artists from 27 countries of the world, who were selected by an international jury from among 260 entries. The theme of the first Triennial, entitled “History – Christianity – Religion”, honors the cultural and religious character of Ayia Napa, the city that bears the reverse name of the Virgin Mary.
The Triennial is a non-profit initiative, operating under the supervision of a seven-member committee of curators from Cyprus and abroad, while the artistic direction has been undertaken by the multi-award-winning visual artist Panikos Panagis Hatzidakis, holder of the 1st Premio at the World Art Biennale of Pescara (Italy), with experience in 90 international exhibitions and honored with distinctions such as the Golden Lion of St. Mark in Venice and the Global Award of Fine Arts of the United Nations.
The exhibition has been curated by the director of the "Thalassa" Museum, Ms. Lia Kyriakou, together with curators Dimitris Agapiou, Vicky Mingova Panayi, Katerina Vassiliou Patragou, Angeliki Triantafyllou and technical consultant Andreas Antoniou.
The event will be held simultaneously in two cultural venues, the Ayia Napa Cultural Center "George Seferis" and the "Thalassa" Municipal Museum, and is expected to attract over 50.000 visitors. Within the framework of the Triennale, 20 international Triennale Napa Awards will be awarded in various categories of visual arts: painting, iconography, sculpture, ceramics, multimedia, etc.
In a statement, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, said that Ayia Napa is fully prepared to welcome in a few days the first World Art Triennial, a leading cultural event of international renown that highlights the role of our city as a leading cultural destination.
"We feel," he added, "particular pride in hosting creators from all over the world and offering a platform for expression to the global artistic community. The Triennale is a bridge of cultures that sends strong messages of peace, dialogue and creation to the whole world."
