The Municipality of Ayia Napa has proceeded with the installation of a modern illuminated speed indicator sign with radar on Nisi Avenue, as part of its continuous efforts to enhance road safety and protect both residents and visitors to the area.

This particular avenue is one of the roads with increased traffic in Ayia Napa and the installation of the new system aims to immediately inform drivers about the speed at which they are driving, encouraging them to comply with the permitted speed limit.

The illuminated sign operates with a modern radar system and interactive displays, displaying the vehicle's speed as well as special icons – happy or sad – depending on the driver's compliance with the permitted limits. In cases of excessive speed, the speed indication is not displayed but only the sad icon, thus preventing the possibility of creating "speed races" between drivers.

The system also has the ability to collect traffic data from both directions, such as vehicle speeds, number of passing vehicles and speed reduction rates. This data will be used by the Municipality to better assess the traffic situation and plan more targeted interventions in the field of road safety.

At the same time, the sign can be connected to the internet, allowing remote management and monitoring of data, while its radar has the ability to record vehicle speed at a distance of up to 300 meters, gradually informing drivers as they approach the point.

In a statement, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, said that "road safety is one of the Municipality's key priorities and the installation of the new speed limit sign on Nisi Avenue is another essential intervention aimed at cultivating proper driving behavior and protecting human lives."

"With modern and smart solutions," he added, "we are utilizing technology to enhance safety on our road network and improve the daily lives of both residents and visitors to Ayia Napa."

Mr. Zannetou also expressed his warm thanks to the company MK TTS Ltd for the kind offer to install the illuminated sign, substantially contributing to the Municipality's efforts to enhance road safety and upgrade the quality of life in the area.
"The Municipality of Ayia Napa," he noted, "will continue to implement actions and initiatives aimed at creating a safer and more functional road environment for all."
