As part of the "Days of Ceramic Art and Clay" event, which was recently held for the first time in the Ayia Napa Municipal District of the Ayia Napa Municipality and was a huge success, a lecture on "Byzantine Glazed Ceramics: The Technique of Engraving" was held at the THALASSA Municipal Museum, by Dr. Dimitra Papanikola - Bakirtzi.
Dr. Dimitra Papanikola-Bakirtzi in her lecture highlighted the traditional method of engraving on semi-dry clay, which is then coated with glossy enamel. This technique, as she mentioned, combines aesthetics and durability, while at the same time connecting ceramic art with Byzantine culture, keeping alive an important tradition of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Afterwards, Paschalis Papapetrou's documentary "Cypriot Medieval Glazed Pottery" was screened, which focused on the history and techniques of glazed pottery in Cyprus from the 12th to the 15th century, highlighting the importance and technical excellence of this traditional art.
The event was an important opportunity for the public to learn about and appreciate the cultural heritage of Cyprus.
