The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, received the clear assurance that Cyprus remains a safe and stable destination during the meeting he had on Wednesday, March 11, with the Chief Administrative Officer of the Sovereign British Bases Administration and Secretary of Administration of the British Forces Cyprus, Ms. Fleur Thomas, and with the Political Commander of the British Bases of Dhekelia, Ms. Maria Kyriakidou-Pieri, regarding developments in the wider Middle East region.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Districts of Liopetri, Avgorou and Achna, Mr. Markos Koumis, Panagis Michaelas and Nikos Vasilas.
During the briefing, the competent authorities presented the situation in the region in a responsible and documented manner, emphasizing that there is no reason for concern for Cyprus, while confirming the high level of security and stability prevailing on the island.
Particular reference was made to the fact that families of British nationals living in Cyprus continue their daily lives as normal, even in areas close to military bases, an element that further enhances the feeling of security.
In a statement after the meeting, Mr. Zannettou noted that “the information we received was clear and reassuring, there is no reason for concern for Cyprus.” He also stressed that “in times of international uncertainty, we must all demonstrate composure, responsibility and seriousness, conveying the right messages to society and visitors to our country.”
He also pointed out that "Cyprus remains a safe, stable and reliable destination" and assured that "as the Municipality of Ayia Napa we are working responsibly to preserve the feeling of trust and support the tourist season, strengthening the image of our country as a place of safety and hospitality."
