The Ayia Napa Municipal Museum THALASSA, in the context of International Museum Day (May 18), organizes on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 19:30, a lecture on the topic "Archaeological tours in Cape Greco" with the speaker Dr. Angelos Smagas.
The presentation focuses on the antiquities of the Cape Greco region and its cultural evolution from prehistoric times to the 20th century. Through the analysis of archaeological finds and historical testimonies, the uninterrupted human presence and cultural continuity of the region is highlighted, which includes, among others, prehistoric settlements, ancient sanctuaries, Hellenistic tombs, early Christian basilicas, Byzantine hermitages, medieval monasteries and works of the British period.
The event aims to highlight the dynamic relationship between man and landscape in Cape Greco, illuminating aspects of history and archaeology that make up the rich cultural reserve of the free province of Famagusta.

A few words about the speaker – Dr. Angelos Smagas
Angelos Smagas comes from Prastio, Famagusta. He is a graduate of the Paralimni Lyceum and holds a degree from the Department of History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In the same Department, he completed his postgraduate studies with honors and was awarded a doctorate with a grade of 10, unanimously. He also holds a degree in Journalism and training in Informatics.
He has worked at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Ministry of Culture of Greece, while he has collaborated voluntarily with Municipalities and Metropolises of Cyprus. For twenty years he has served as a philologist in the Public Secondary and Technical Education of Cyprus. His written work includes fifteen books and over a hundred articles, with an emphasis on archaeology and culture.
