The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, recently expressed his sincere thanks to the government for its practical assistance to the professional fishermen of the Liopetri River publicly through his Facebook page.
"The decision, he added, is valuable, not only for economic prosperity, but also for ensuring the sustainability of traditional fishing and our fishing culture, and especially the sustainability of subsistence fishermen, who in recent years have faced enormous hardship in practicing their profession."
He also expressed his support for the Ministry of Interior, and in particular the Minister of Interior, Mr. Konstantinos Ioannou, who, in coordination with the Department of Urban Planning and Housing, is making every possible effort to resume work and complete the project as soon as possible.
"A project," as he pointed out, "of the utmost importance for the professionals of the Liopetri River, for our Municipality but also for the entire Famagusta District since it is unique in its picturesqueness and character."
"Our cooperation with the Minister of Interior and all relevant departments to support any actions for the completion of the project is a given and will continue with the same commitment and effectiveness."
