It has been one year since the establishment and official operation of the new Municipality of Ayia Napa, within the framework of the local government reform. This first year saw remarkable progress with targeted projects and actions that are implemented equally in all the Municipal Districts of Sotira, Achna, Liopetri, Avgorou and Ayia Napa.
Despite the challenges and difficulties that arose, the Municipal Authority implemented an ambitious and balanced development plan, laying the foundations for a modern, functional and people-centered Municipality with the ultimate goal of overall upgrading the quality of life of residents and strengthening the identity of each region.
Targeted actions were also implemented to support youth, the elderly, culture and local groups, organizing events and actions that were designed with respect for the identity of each Municipal District.
In collaboration with associations, organizations and volunteers, traditions were kept alive, while at the same time opportunities for creative participation and expression were provided to citizens of all ages. These actions are part of the overall strategic planning for a modern, inclusive Municipality, with equal opportunities and balanced development for all Municipal Districts.
Below are listed important projects and actions, either in the planning or maturation phase, completed, being implemented, or on track for completion, with a budget exceeding €20,000,000, reflecting the determination of the Local Authority to promote development in the Municipality.

2. D.D. Sotiras: Reconstruction of sidewalks on Kyriakou Matsi, Grigoris Afxentiou, 25th March and Archiepiskopou Makariou streets, with provision for people with disabilities

The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, in his statements, noted that the first year of operation of the new Municipality is an important milestone.
"Despite the challenges of the reform," he added, "with good cooperation and a shared vision with the Deputy Mayors and all the Members of the Municipal Council, we have proceeded with a plan and responsibility in the implementation of important projects, which are already changing the image of our region."
"Our priority remains the substantial improvement of the daily lives of citizens, the strengthening of social cohesion and the promotion of our cultural identity. All interventions are designed with the aim of the equal development of each district, without discrimination."
"With consistency, vision and cooperation, we continue to build a modern, resilient, functional and hospitable Municipality, a Municipality that is worthy of our residents and visitors," concluded Mr. Zannetou.
