With the best of omens, the curtain opened on the three-day events of the Flood, the Fish Festival and the Ayia Napa Water Festival, on Saturday, June 7. Crowds of people flooded St. George Square in the Port's Land Area, creating a unique, festive atmosphere.
The first night culminated with an impressive concert by the explosive Greek folk singer Kelly Kelekidou, who thrilled the audience with her well-known hits and beloved timeless songs. She was joined on stage by the talented Cypriot singer Giorgos Vanis.
The concert was preceded by Asia Minor dances by the Cultural Group "Tradition" of Liopetri and Cypriot Dances by the Cultural Group "THOI" of Avgorou, enhancing the folklore and traditional character of the event.
As part of the evening, the Mayor of Ayia Napa carried out a particularly moving act, honoring three children for their exceptional successes and contribution to representing Cyprus.
Specifically, Nicoletta Livadioti and Nikos Dimitriou were honored for their 2nd place with their song "The Compass" in the International Low Vision Song Contest, as well as Giorgos Mavrou (known as "Koubaros") for winning 1st place in the 100 and 200 meter events at the Pancyprian Special Olympics Athletics Games held on May 06 at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia.
The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, expressed his warm congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the awardees for their successes. “It is an honor and pride for our Municipality,” he added, “to award young people who, with perseverance, passion and talent, excel in Cyprus and abroad.”
"Nikoletta, Nikos and Giorgos are shining examples of strength and creativity. We thank them for making us proud and we wish them every success in their future endeavors," concluded the Mayor of Ayia Napa.
